Duplication cyst in the sigmoid colon mimicking a submucosal tumor: A case report

چکیده
Introduction: A duplication cyst in the alimentary tract is a rare congenital anomaly that most often occurs in the small bowel and rarely occurs in the colon. Most cases in the small bowel are diagnosed at childhood due to complications or symptoms caused by the duplication cyst. However, duplication cysts in the colon are often asymptomatic, despite resulting in rare complications, such as obstruction, infection, and inflammation. Thus, duplication cysts in the colon can be detected incidentally through imaging studies or during a colonoscopy, causing them to possibly be misdiagnosed as a submucosal tumor of the colon. Case Report: We present a case of a duplication cyst of the sigmoid colon, which was preoperatively misdiagnosed as a submucosal tumor. A 64-year-old male was referred for treatment of the submucosal mass of the sigmoid colon. A large round submucosal mass was found in the sigmoid colon during colonoscopy, and computed tomography revealed an approximately 4 cm homogeneous enhancing mass of the sigmoid colon without evidence of lymphadenopathy. With a presumed diagnosis of submucosal tumor, laparoscopic anterior resection was performed. However, histologic examination showed that the mass was consistent with a duplication cyst in the sigmoid colon. Conclusion: This case represents an unusual case of a duplication cyst in the sigmoid colon, which could not be preoperatively diagnosed. Although its preoperative diagnosis is difficult given its rarity, a duplication cyst can be considered one of the differential diagnoses of a submucosal colon mass. Giant Submucosal Lipoma of Sigmoid Colon
Lipomas of the gasterointestinal Tract are relatively uncommon in clinical practice. Most cases are asymptomatic with small tumor size and do not need any special treatment but the large ones are known to cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, obstruction, intussusceptions, and bleeding. The majority (90%) of these lesions are submucosal with predominantly right sided with a slight preponder...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Glandular odontogenic cyst is a rare developmental odontogenic cyst which most frequently occures in mandible. According to low incidence and unusual shape and location of this case, we decided to report the case. CASE REPORT: Here we present an asymptomatic case in anterior part of maxilla that radiographically was small and unilacular mimicking as a nasopalatine du...

Malakoplakia is a rare granulomatous disease of the genitourinary system. Gastrointestinal tract is the second most common site of involvement. It usually mimics a malignancy but its association with adenocarcinoma has been rarely reported. A 59-year-old male patient with the history of weight loss and rectal bleeding for two months prior to administration was referred ...

Background: Hepatic tumors are rare in children comprising only 1% - 4 % of all childhood solid tumors. Primary sarcomas of the liver are extremely rare and represent approximately 0.2 % of all liver tumors. Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of liver is an aggressive tumor with an unfavorable prognosis. Here we reported a case of undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of liver in a 9-year-old boy ...
